Collecting survey data can be expensive and time-consuming; therefore, it is important to ensure that you collect usable and reliable data. This course is designed to prepare participants to create hard copy or online surveys to meet a variety of needs.
This two-day workshop will focus on questionnaire design: types of questions, types of response categories, open and closed questions, questionnaire layout and order of questions and questions, common mistakes, pilot testing, and specific questions such as “The importance of cover design. ” The workshop includes practice designing survey layout, critique practice and writing questions and answers.

Day 1
- How surveys can be used;
- Types of surveys and types of data collection;
- Writing good survey questions;
- Avoiding common mistakes;
- Make sure the survey achieves the research objectives;
- Sampling and summarizing the results;
- The importance of survey reliability and validity;
- Practice writing questions that are fit for purpose and maintain reliability.
Day two
- Pilot testing;
- Telephone and online surveys;
- Exploring the data to get the most out of it;
- Weighting the sample for better generalization;
- Report on the survey results;
- What claims can and cannot be made;
- Practice building an overall design to fit the purpose.
